My hands smell of beeswax. I have been spending long hours in the studio finishing new paintings for Red Dot, a satellite of Art Basel Miami Beach, the most prestigious art show in the Americas. More than 260 leading galleries from North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa will take part, showcasing works by more than 2,000 artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

My new studio in Santa Barbara is (almost) finished. Beeswax is melting as a small brown bird slips in every day to collect bits of string and paper for her burgeoning roost. I think we are living parallel lives. Almost done building our nests.
