Starry skies have been a recurring theme in my sketchbooks since childhood. Representing the extraordinary experiences of being in the presence of stars has felt elusive. This year I had a breakthrough : I made a tiny painting that communicated the feeling I was seeking: silence, mystery, magnificence, absolute inspiration & the sensation of being tiny in the scope of time & space. That small painting hangs in my studio to inspire me daily. It certainly informed this larger work.
