A portion of each purchase goes to help support The Florida Keys Wild Bird Center
For years my studio in Miami was a five acre tropical forest that was a home to hundreds of wild birds and native trees. My neighbors tended avocado and mango orchards and often called me to discuss the owls and other creatures that they found nesting in their barns and outbuildings. At times we found birds in need of rehabilitation or medical care and we called the Wild Bird Sanctuary in the Florida Keys. I visited the Center and fell in love with their mission: avian rehabilitation coupled with the education for visitors and the public.

in 2013 I started BGS, a philanthropic enterprise to raise funds for / that allows me to give back to the wildlife that has so inspired me + my work.
I DEVOTED OVER 15 YEARS OF MY LIFE TO CREATING ORIGINAL ART IN THE ANCIENT MEDIUM OF ENCAUSTIC. THIS COLLECTION OF REPRODUCTIONS ARE THE CULMINATION OF THOSE YEARS OF WORK.
Encaustic literally means to "burn in", from the Greek enkaustikos. Encaustic consists of natural bees wax and dammar resin (crystallized tree sap) being melted together and used as a paint. Because of the time intensive & methodical nature of the work, the price of an original painting was often out of the reach of beginning collectors. I created this line of limited edition museum quality reproductions to make my most beloved images available. Thank you for your inspired purchase!
Florida Keys Wild Bird Sanctuary is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 conservation organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of native and migratory wild birds that have been harmed or displaced. These funds help to pay for food and medical supplies, etc.
